The Story

Hello, my name is Eliezer Melvin Muljana, but people usually call me Melvin. I am currently very grateful to be taking part in an exchange program at Chang Jung Christian University in Taiwan.

This is an experience I will never forget because I feel so fortunate to be able to study in Taiwan, which has been my dream since childhood, to be able to study abroad. I am also lucky and excited because my studies here are supported by a tuition fee waiver scholarship, which allows me to study in Taiwan without paying for tuition.
My major here is accounting, and I am continuing my studies in accounting after completing five semesters as an accounting student. At Chang Jung Christian University, I have been learning how to process data, international business strategies, the important role of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), how to analyze a company’s ESG, and analyze foreign markets. In addition, I have taken the opportunity to enroll in Mandarin language classes to help me with the language. Personally, I believe Mandarin is very important for me, and this is the perfect time to start learning it.

As an exchange student, I can't compare myself to regular students here at CJCU. Exchange students have it easier because you only choose the courses you’re interested in, which makes studying more manageable. Exchange students are also warmly welcomed by the International Study Buddy Union (ISBU), which organizes field trips, cultural events, and fun activities like BBQ dinners with ISBU members and other exchange students.
Experiencing a different environment and culture has really opened my eyes. It's also been great to meet other exchange students, I hang out with people from Vietnam, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, and France. Tainan may not be as big as Taipei or Kaohsiung, but it is a major international hub in a stable economy.
Here, there are also many students from the African continent, such as from Tanzania, Burundi, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Congo, and many others. What’s interesting is that many of them speak Mandarin quite well, and they are also very friendly with me.

I want to thank God, my parents, and Atma Jaya University for supporting and guiding me to get to where I am today. I am very grateful for this opportunity to learn and grow in Taiwan, and I definitely won’t waste it. Instead, I will make the most of it as a stepping stone for my future.
